 I keep photographing flowers I think because they are easy. I need to get out of my comfort zone and either do something more interesting with the flowers or 
I think this is the Melias Tame bird preset. I love the grain. 

Pink Peony Dress Remnant Photographs

The remaining photos that didn't make it to the set that I still liked on their own. Some were experiments, some with a different light. When I shot these a year ago I loved making everything misty. When I can to edit them this week I wanted things sharper. I guess I'll keep changing styles and using different techniques for different situations.

Pink Rose

Full Bloom Rose

I absolutely adore the full ruffled billowy rose. I've been looking at so many but this is just the shape and style I wanted.
After the rose died I picked and pressed each petal and a leaf to use in my work later.

Veiled Roses

I am obsessed with photographing flowers, they are pretty easy which is why. They just sit still and look beautiful for me.

I am starting an English Rose project in my other work, unpacking a little of what that means and my identity. This was playing with some tulle and roses in the garden. Enjoying the romance of it.

The Pink Cherry Blossoms

These pink blossoms were insanely huge and colour popping against the bright blue sky and green hedge. Completely overwhelming and fabulous lacking any subtlety.

I have obviously pumped these up a little more to how I saw them in my head. Not the direction I want to head with my photography but really fun. 

White Apple Blossom

There was so much blossom this April and May everywhere. This is the white apple blossom. Looking at white for inspiration. right now fresh, new crisp and clean seems particularly appealing. 

Frosted Flowers April

Frosty morning making all the flowers a little more magical with tiny water droplets changing their texture. 

Geranium Red

Learning to photograph red better. I want that Powell and Pressburger red which is so magical and was to do with the film stock. How to create that digitally? 

Blossom

Blossom in colour and black and white. Pleased with these soft blush colours but again am more into the black and white. 

Magnolia Buds

I took so many photographs of the magnolias but I am keeping this one. I love the bud and that it looks like a lipstick. I like the pink base the slight out of focus the colours and the grain. Would like to make more images with these textures.  

Tulips April 2020

Tulips photographed in April 2020. Soon after lockdown. I'm really pleased with the texture of the petals. 

Daffodils April

Daffodils felt more of a challenge. They aren't these big classical blooms like peonies and rose or even the magnolias. Nor are they delicate fairy like flowers, they are the humble Daffodil.

These were the miniature kind and the sun was making them extra gold in the light. What I saw with my eye, the luminescence of the petals didn't translate.
I edited them in lightroom bringing the black and shadows down to set the completely against a black background instead of the grass.

I'm happy with the dark greens, the grain and the tone of the yellow. They look more like they are lit by the light of the moon instead of the afternoon sun.

The crackly details in the black and white image add more texture

Pink Camellias 2020

Looking at photographing or presenting every image in black and white and colour. I'm lacking to vocabulary to write about what and why I am choosing images.

I like black and white for its clean simplicity without the distractions or added ideas colour brings.
I like colour for being able to present the ideas that colour brings.

These Camellias are very bold and pink and extra frilly like Barbara Cartland.  I wanted the colours to be saturated like I see them but softened so they aren't quite so brash. They remind me of 1950s floral dress prints.

I prefer the more perfectly formed blush pink variety I first photographed and the romance they portrayed.

One of the reasons I don't really like talking about the photographs is because its difficult not to sound pretentious!

Magic Flowers

These tiny little flowers are found under some trees in the garden and come alive like magic in the evening sunlight.
I wanted to capture those little punches of colour with light making the luminescent. I'm drawn to the darker shadows and have increased the black.

I also really love photographing flowers, I need to pick some and try a still life.

Magnolia flowers on black - in black and white and in colour.

Peonies Life Cycle

I photographed these Peonies over a few weeks from bud to end.
I have edited these differently in lightroom from super saturated 1950s bold colour to subtle balletic colours more akin to still life paintings.
I still love the black and white most and need to get more confident with colour and how to use it.

Freesias from Lynnsey Kelly flowers. I love the green and white on the black. Needs a tripod to get super sharp detail on the petals.
